It has been a pretty eventful week here at the Speer household, and we can thank Zoey for that. Lately, for about the past week or so she had been acting different. She wasn't eating or drinking much, losing wt and seemed depressed. Tuesday night she woke us up at 11:30, 1:00 am, 3:00 am and 5:00 am vomiting. She kept wanting to go outside too. Everytime we would let her out she would eat grass and puke some more. Wednesday TJ took her to the Vet and found out she was severely dehydrated and anemic, her mouth and eyes not the color they should have been. They put all her symptoms together and were pretty sure Zoey had Addisons Disease...the adrenal cortex does not excrete enough hormones causing her to not become dehydrated, vomit etc. So, Wednesday she stayed at the Vet all day and they started an IV and gave her a bunch of fluids, then Wednesday night we brought her to the All City Pet Care which is an overnight hospital. She stayed there all night and got some more fluids. This morning TJ picked her up and brought her back to the Vet where they watched her all day and gave her more fluids. If she did have this Addisons disease the dehydration could kill her so we wanted to get as many fluids in her as possible.

Here is where the story gets good.

While she was at the vet today her blood work came back and looked great! She does NOT have Addisons disease!! Thank God. So what was making her so sick you may ask......well she also had a bowel movement while she was at the vet and she pooped out a 6 1/2 inch stick that was the width of a sharpie marker!!! Poor puppy, the tech said zoey cried it must have hurt. How that stick made it through her bowels we will never know, but the xray of them after she passed it looked good so it didn't damage her bowels. I also found out that dogs eat grass when their stomach is upset because they know it will make them throw up in hopes to make themselves feel better. She now feels much better and is eating and drinking. Still quite tired though. Miracle!

Here is a picture of the stick Zoey swallowed
